Cooking at Home with Cherubs Nursery Sale!
We handed out recipe bags at Cherubs Nursery Sale so our children could cook a tasty meal at home. The bags were filled with fresh ingredients and instructions for making our tasty Carrot and Lentil Soup!
The recipe came from Cherubs’ healthy seasonal menu
The Carrot and Lentil Soup is one of the tasty Meat Free Monday meals we serve here at Cherubs Nursery. It’s a lovely warming winter recipe with a hint of orange. The children love it!
It’s a great recipe for cooking with children because it involves peeling, grating, blending, pouring and stirring. This is all very good for the children’s fine motor skills and also teaches them how to use a variety of kitchen tools safely.
Nursery Manager Samantha said, “We do lots to promote healthy eating at Cherubs, from freshly preparing nutritious meals in our kitchen, to teaching children how to grow their own vegetables in our garden.
We often prepare food with our children at the nursery because it helps them to understand that fresh and healthy ingredients can be transformed into something really tasty.
“This time we thought it would be great to send something home that would help our families have fun cooking with the children too!
“Cooking with children is great for developing their independence, fine motor skills and understanding of where healthy meals come from. We know that cooking with a young helper can sometimes take a little longer than usual, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our busy families.
“Our parents, carers and grandparents told us they loved cooking with the children and really enjoyed the soup. One of our mums even took the leftover soup into work the next day!”
We asked our families to share their soup selfies!
After handing out the bags at Cherubs Nursery Sale, we asked our families to share their soup selfies with us. We wanted to see our little chefs at work in their homes and were delighted with the amazing photos we received!
A big ‘thank you’ to our parents and carers
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our families for taking part and a big ‘well done!’ to our children for making all that delicious looking soup.
